1. Commitment to Privacy
Summavio ("we", "our", or "us") operates https://summavio.com. We believe essential productivity tools should function without demanding your personal data. We do not require account registration, passwords, credit card numbers, or email addresses to use our service.
2. Rate Limiting & Client Identifiers
To protect service availability against bot abuse, automated scrapers, and denial-of-service disruptions, we enforce daily usage limits.
Summavio application code does not intentionally persist raw IP addresses in its rate-limit store. When an extraction or AI request is made, your IP address is processed using a one-way, cryptographically salted HMAC-SHA256 algorithm. Only the resulting non-reversible token is used to increment daily counters, which automatically reset every day at 00:00 UTC.
3. Managed Transcript Provider & Caption Retrieval
When you enter a YouTube URL, our backend sends the requested public YouTube video identifier to our configured managed transcript provider (TranscriptAPI) solely to retrieve publicly accessible captions. We do not transmit personal user data to the transcript provider.
When you use the Paste Raw Transcript tab, your pasted text is formatted directly by Summavio and does not call the managed transcript provider.
4. Ephemeral Transcript Caching (Netlify Blobs)
When a public YouTube URL is processed, the retrieved caption text is temporarily cached in encrypted cloud storage (Netlify Blobs) for up to 24 hours. This caching is intended solely to serve subsequent requests for the same video without consuming redundant bandwidth or API quota. We do not maintain a permanent historical archive of user searches or link submissions.
5. Third-Party Artificial Intelligence (Google Gemini)
When you explicitly click to generate an AI transformation (such as Executive Summary, Key Takeaways, or Study Notes), the cleaned transcript text is transmitted securely via HTTPS to Google Gemini APIs to synthesize the requested response. AI requests are strictly on-demand—transcripts are never sent to AI providers unless you deliberately click an AI action. We do not sell or monetize your submitted text.
6. Client-Side Document Exports
All document downloads (plain text .txt, PDF .pdf, and Microsoft Word .docx) are assembled and encoded directly inside your local web browser using client-side JavaScript libraries. Your generated files are saved directly to your local device without being sent to, processed by, or stored on our servers.
7. Cookies & Tracking
Summavio does not use cross-site tracking cookies, behavioral ad-targeting cookies, or fingerprinting technologies. Essential functional browser storage (such as localStorage for temporary session preferences) may be used locally on your device to remember user interface settings.
